Support for Local Partnership Projects 

Local Partnership grants were awarded to projects that cultivate meaningful partnerships among local government, civil society, and other stakeholders supporting a diverse array of citizen initiatives to address specific identified needs and common issues of importance to local communities. Three out of four Local Partnership grants were awarded with emphasis on regions outside of Skopje, in Gostivar, Delcevo and Prilep.

 

 

Association for Democratic Initiatives

ADI was established in 1994. They have offices in Albania (Tirana), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo), Kosovo (Prishtina), and USA (New York). ADI is an NGO with special consultative status with ECOSOC of the UN and is a founding member of the Steering Committee of the Balkan Human Rights Network (BHRN) and founding member and chair of the Coordination Committee of the Southeast European Committee on Refugee and Exiles (SEE-RAN). The mission of ADI is promotion and protection of human rights, development of civil society, and providing support for democratic processes, peace and stability. The organization has a membership of 300 individuals serving as a pool of volunteers for program activities from which 20 members are actively involved in ADIs activities. Their Board of Directors is consisted of 9 members. ADI’s project will help citizens and local government officials to work closely together to improve local conditions, provide support to those who are in need, and promote more open and responsible local municipal governments. The project will be implemented in Debar, Gostivar, Kicevo, and Tetovo.   ADI’s Implementation partners for this project are: RHAM “Sonce” - Tetovo, NGO Support Center - Kicevo, Women’s Center - Debar and Enterprise Support Agency (ESA) - Gostivar.

Center for Civic Initiative

CCI was established in May 1997, and is a member of a number of national (SEGA, Civic Platform of Macedonia), and international networks (SEE-RAN, UN/NGO regional network, UNESCO, CIVICUS etc.). CCI is focused on development of the civil society, and participation of citizens in democratic processes in the Republic of Macedonia. CCI’s projects aim to address the needs of the community and include educating youth to get community support for their activities, supporting marginalized groups such as Roma to alleviate their problems, strengthening NGOs and improving their relations with the local government, and helping the local public administration to provide client oriented services. CCI has 40 members who are a resource for implementation of CCI’s activities. CCI staff and members are considering the possibility for transforming their organization into a Community Foundation. CCI’s staff consists of 9 people and a pool of 40 volunteers that are hired when needed. CCI’s project will help citizens work closely together to identify and resolve problems they face in their communities. CCI will provide funding, training, support and information to up to 30 of these groups of citizens and their activities.  The project will be implemented in Bitola, Dolneni, Krivogashtani, Krusevo, and Prilep. The long term project purpose is to develop and support the concept of local development through contributions given and initiated by local community stakeholders and to increase CCI resources and capacities to be able to facilitate community development.

KHAM

KHAM was established in 1998. Its mission is to raise the education level and to improve the social and economic condition of marginalized groups, with special emphasis on Roma population and to promote civil society. The organization has branches in Kocani, Vinica, Berovo, Pehcevo and in the village Crnik. It is a founder of two NGO networks: Eastern Roma Coordination including Roma NGOs and NGOs from Bregalnica Region, which is a network of ethnically mixed NGOs in Eastern Macedonia. KHAM and its branches have about 150 members. The organization has two full time employees, six members with temporary working contracts that work full time and four volunteers with part-time. The assembly has 20 members of different ethnic background. KHAM’s project will help NGOs in Eastern Macedonia to promote ways for citizens to work together and achieve concrete improvements in the community.  KHAM will provide funding, training, and support to up to 10 NGOs in Berovo, Delcevo, Kocani, Makedonska Kamenica, Pehcevo, and Vinica.  KHAM will select NGOs who will help citizens work closely together with government and businesses as well as those who will support people who are most in need.
